HEAD COACH RICH NYERS is a 1991 Woodbridge High School graduate.
In 1993, he began coaching at Bishop Ahr..
1994 - Nyers servied as a player / coach for the Bremen Buccaneers, a team in a professional league in Europe. With Nyers at quarterback / defensive back, the Bucs went 8-4-1.
1995 - Nyers returned to Bishop Ahr for another season.
1996 thru 2000 - Nyers headed to his college alma mater in Madison and served as the defensive backs coach and recruiting coordinator for FDU. Nyers coached there for five seasons, long enough to see the Devils qualify for the NCAA playoffs for the first time after a long absence.
2001 thru 2003 - Nyers then returned to the high school ranks and served as defensive coordinator at Kennedy for three seasons
2004 - Served as the head coach at Cardinal McCarrick for one season.
2005 - Coach Nyers joined the staff of the Woodbridge HS Football Program as the Offensive Coordinator. His Varsity Squad registered a 3-7 overall record, and did not qualify for the NJSIAA, North Jersey 2 - Group IV Playoffs. The Barrons delivered a 2-6 record in the Greater Middlesex Conference - Red Division (2005), and a 7th place finish. Defeated the Lenape Indians 22-19 in the NJSIAA Consolation Game. Guided (WR) Shamar Graves and (RB) Garrett Mozolic to 2nd Team All Area.
In 2006, Offensive Coordinator WHS, Coach Nyers had great expectations for a successful season. Some hard luck and key injuries delivered a sub .500 year, and the Barrons failed to qualify for the NJSIAA, North Jersey 2 - Group IV Playoffs. They defeated the Passaic County Tech Buccaneers 13-9 in the season opener, a non-conference game. The Barrons delivered a 2-5 record in the Greater Middlesex Conference - Red Division (2006), and a 7th place finish. They then defeated the Belleville Bulldogs 22-19 in the NJSIAA Consolation Game. Guided (RB) Garrett Mozolic to All-Group 4 3rd Team (O), Coaches All-Conference (O), 1st Team All-Middlesex (O) and All-Red Division (O); (OG) Derek Shea to the 2nd Team All-Middlesex (O), Coaches All-Conference Team (O), and All-Red Division (O); (C) Chuck Pierson, to 2nd Team All Middlesex (D) and All-Red Division (D); (LB) Gino Abbate and (LB) AJ Lonardo to All-Red Division (D).
In 2007, Offensive Coordinator WHS, his Varisty Squad registered a 4-6 overall record, and earned a berth in the NJSIAA, North Jersey 2 - Group IV Playoffs. It marked the 3rd playoff appearance in the past 5 seasons for the Barrons. The Piscataway Chiefs defeated the Barrons 27-7 in Round One of the playoffs. The Barrons defeated the Passaic County Tech Buccaneers in the season opener, a non-conference game, and then delivered a 3-4 record in the Greater Middlesex Conference - Red Division (2007), and a 6th place finish. Guided (DE) Adams Issaka to 1st Team All-Area, 1st Team All-Middlesex, and All GMC Red Division, (RB/LB) Christian Mangine to 2nd Team All-Area, 1st Team All-Middlesex, and All GMC Red Division, (RB) DeShawn Knight to 3rd Team All-Middlesex, and All GMC Red Division, (QB/P) Anthony Graham to All GMC Red Division, (OL/DL) Vincent Rodriguez to All GMC Red Division, and (OL/DL) Kimo Elsayed to All GMC Red Division.
2008 will be the first season for Rich Nyers as the Head Coach of the John F. Kennedy HS Football Program. "This is a tremendous opportunity for me," said Nyers, who also graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University. "My goal is to build up the numbers, which we've already done, and to lay down a foundation by focusing on the basics like blocking and tackling. We want to eventually increase our competitive edge, then win some games along the way."
Nyers has retained assistant coaches Tom McFadden and Nick Cilento from Kennedy's previous staff and will add Kevin Wieczerzak, Lou Brunelli and Charlie McDevitt as the Mustangs will go with a six-man staff.
Coach Nyers is a teacher of Social Studies for the Woodbridge Township School District and is assigned to John F. Kennedy HS.
Currently, Coach Nyers resides in Manalapan with his wife, Christine, and their two children, Justin and Morgan.
